The Role:

As the Chief Organization Communication Officer, reporting to the Chief Communication and External Affairs Officer, you will spearhead communication efforts across our expansive seven-state PSJH health system. This pivotal leadership role demands an innovative mindset to deliver cohesive, strategic, and impactful communication both internally and externally, thereby enhancing our reputation in the healthcare industry.

What You'll Do:

  • Strategic Planning & Execution:

  • Guide executive leadership through complex communication initiatives with strategic insight.

  • Shape annual communication strategies and budgets alongside the communication leadership team, ensuring resource optimization and stewardship.

  • Drive multifaceted communication campaigns encompassing organizational storytelling, caregiver engagement, public relations, and reputation management.

  • Transform system and division objectives into dynamic communication and marketing plans that resonate.

  • Collaborate with marketing leadership to ensure seamless alignment between communication and marketing efforts.

  • Manage relationships with key agency partners and tech collaborators to bolster the Providence brand and achieve communication goals.

  • Develop and refine communication channels, tools, and platforms that effectively convey key messages and updates from leadership, maintaining organizational voice both internally and externally.

  • Public Relations & Thought Leadership:

  • Lead national public relations efforts, cultivating relationships with top-tier media and executing proactive PR strategies for clinical initiatives.

  • Establish thought leadership platforms for Providence executives, amplifying their presence among internal audiences and on the national stage.

  • Champion Providence’s voice in national discourse, enhancing visibility through strategic awards and events.

  • Legislative Advocacy Communication:

  • Partner with government affairs to design strategic communication support that advances advocacy agendas.

  • Execute community and governmental relationship-building plans to ensure unified messaging across all regions and business lines.

  • Stakeholder & Community Engagement:

  • Coordinate with diverse teams and stakeholders to align messaging strategies with community partners.

  • Support regional communication leaders in handling issues such as crisis communication, mergers, and reputation management.

  • Strengthen connections with local, state, and federal government entities, fostering partnerships with business and community leaders.

  • Integrate Providence Mission and core values into all communication materials and relationships.

  • Team Leadership & Supervision:

  • Oversee comprehensive communication streams, including internal communication, public relations, advocacy, and more.

  • Cultivate a culture of excellence within your team, focusing on service, quality, and innovative thought leadership.

  • Elevate caregiver engagement across roles and seniority levels, ensuring adherence to the corporate brand and excellence standards.

  • Additional Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Providence TV studio, guaranteeing productions reflect the organization’s brand.

  • Champion new strategic initiatives, such as health equity and environmental stewardship, through effective communication strategies.

  • Communicate the vision of Health for a Better World through impactful strategies and programs.

What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare, Marketing, Journalism, or Public/Media Relations. Master’s Degree preferred.

  • Over 10 years of experience in communications and/or marketing, with senior leadership exposure.

  • Proven skills in strategy development, crisis communication, and relationship management.

  • Visionary thinking coupled with creativity and motivation to drive innovation.

  • Ability to collaborate with senior management, consulting firms, media, and community leaders effectively.

  • Demonstrated competence in leveraging communication to support strategic Health System goals.

  • A commitment to embodying and promoting Providence’s Mission and core values.

  • Confidentiality, service excellence, and positive interpersonal relations.

  • Adept at translating abstract concepts into clear communications strategies.

  • Responsive to a constantly changing healthcare landscape, with keen judgment and cognitive skills.
