Swedish Health Services Senior Patient Financial Counselor in Seattle, Washington
Description
The Senior Patient Financial Counselor is responsible for insurance and eligibility verifications and assessment of financial requirements of recommended treatments including, but not limited to, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, office visits, integrated supportive care services, and other cancer-related therapy or services. The Senior Patient Financial Counselor counsels the patient on insurance benefits, co-payments, and out of pocket expenses. The Senior Patient Financial Counselor is responsible for obtaining any required preauthorization for procedures, treatments, and admissions and is responsible for obtaining grants and drug assistance programs to support the patient's financial needs and provide access to care. This position is forward facing with patients and works collaboratively with referral coordinators, physicians, social work, nursing staff, pharmacy, and third-party payers. The Senior Patient Financial Counselors are held accountable for coordinating all aspects of the patient's financial roadmap. This includes working with insurance company medical directors and case managers to appeal denials and communicate the appeal process to internal providers and patients. This patient facing position requires empathy and tact in discussing sensitive financial issues related to the patient's procedure or treatment.

Required Qualifications:
Associate's Degree Accounting, business administration, or related field. Or An equivalent combination of training and experience.
2 years Prior background in a healthcare setting of billing, financial counseling, or financial advocacy with proficiency in medical terminology.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree Accounting, business administration, or related field.
